I like this story until it gets to the end. I really hated the end, but we'll get to that.
I liked the coming-of-age story around these kids. Easy to relate to and flowed fluidly. I like how developed the characters seemed. I did feel I wanted to know even more about them, and even more about things that were introduced in the story. I don't know how some things ended.
I felt like some parts of the story started to dip into subjects and then didn't really follow through. As an example, there is a part where a drug pipe comes into play. I don't believe the story that was told behind it and wonder why Lark let it go too. The signs were there, she kept pointing them out throughout the story, but when the time came, she let it go. All I can say is why??
Then at the end, when things were getting good, it all started to speed up too much. Literally as I finished my thought was, "Really?!"
I never did figure out Gideon Lee either, but maybe the next book.
